Community Coordinator - Language Program
The Community Coordinator plays an important role in supporting the delivery of our community’s language program. Reporting to the Education Coordinator, this position ensures that all members—both on and off reserve—are informed about the opportunity and have the support needed to participate. The coordinator will assist with registration through North Island College (NIC), help participants navigate technology, and act as a key point of contact between the community and NIC.
In addition to promoting the program, the coordinator will help plan and organize in-person sessions, including logistics for members traveling from outside the community. The role also involves coordinating honorariums for elders and guest speakers, supporting cultural protocols, and assisting with final reporting requirements alongside NIC.
Duties and Responsibilities:
As the Community Coordinator - Language Program for Pacheedaht First Nation, you will:
Promote the language program across the community by sharing information through
newsletters, social media, community boards, and direct outreach, ensuring all members—on
and off reserve—are aware of upcoming opportunities.
• Support participants with the NIC registration process, guiding them through forms,
deadlines, and requirements, and acting as a point of contact for any questions related to
enrollment.
• Provide basic technology support to help participants access online course materials, set up
accounts, troubleshoot login issues, and learn how to use the digital tools required for the
program.
• Plan and organize in-person learning sessions, including booking space, coordinating
dates with NIC and community members, and arranging transportation or travel support for
participants coming from outside the community.
• Coordinate honorariums for elders and guest speakers, ensuring cultural protocols are
followed and all administrative steps are completed accurately and respectfully.
• Assist with final reporting, working collaboratively with NIC to provide attendance details,
feedback, summaries, and other required documentation to help evaluate the program’s
success.

To be the successful candidate for this position, you will have/demonstrate:
Education or equivalent:
Communication & Organization: Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and
respectfully with a wide range of community members. Strong organizational skills, with the
capacity to manage multiple tasks, track details, meet deadlines, and work independently with
minimal supervision.
• Technology Support: Comfortable assisting participants with basic technology needs,
including navigating online platforms, setting up accounts, and troubleshooting simple device
or connectivity issues.
• Event & Logistics Coordination: Proven ability to plan and coordinate meetings and in
person sessions. Skilled in organizing travel logistics, scheduling, and ensuring all
details—such as transportation, space bookings, and materials—are in place.
• Community & Elder Engagement: Experience working with elders, knowledge keepers, and
community members is an asset. Ability to build positive, trusting relationships and uphold
cultural protocols with care and respect.
• Indigenous Community Experience: Experience working in Indigenous communities or with
culturally diverse populations, with an understanding of the importance of cultural safety,
humility, and respectful communication.
• Personal Attributes: A respectful, collaborative, and community-oriented approach. Reliable,
accountable, and able to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries. Flexible and
adaptable to changing needs, with a strong sense of responsibility to support community
learners.
• Problem-Solving: Strong practical skills in organizing workflow, solving issues proactively, and
finding solutions that support community members in a timely and effective way.
• Certifications & Checks: Must successfully complete a clear Criminal Record Check,
including the vulnerable sector.

A pay range of $35.00 per hour.
This position is part-time, averaging approximately 8 hours per week. Workload may vary
depending on project needs, with some weeks being slightly more or slightly less. The
contract runs from December through to course completion in April.
