Daycare Cook
About the role
Reporting to the Daycare Manager, the Daycare Cook is responsible for planning, preparing, and serving nutritious meals and snacks for children in accordance with licensing regulations, and any dietary restrictions or allergies. This role ensures a safe, clean, and healthy kitchen environment while supporting the overall wellbeing of children in care.

What you will do
As the Daycare Cook, you will contribute to the Nation’s work through the following areas of responsibility:
Plan and prepare daily meals and snacks for children according to approved menus.
Ensure meals meet nutritional guidelines and support healthy child development.
Accommodate food allergies, sensitivities, cultural preferences, and special dietary needs.
Maintain food safety standards, sanitation, and proper food handling procedures.
Monitor food inventory and order groceries and kitchen supplies as needed.
Store food properly and check expiry dates regularly.
Keep the kitchen, food prep areas, and equipment clean and sanitized.
Maintain records related to food temperatures, cleaning schedules, and meal planning as required.
Follow all health regulations and daycare licensing standards.
Communicate with daycare staff regarding menu changes, children’s dietary needs, and meal schedules.

Lived and learned experience we are seeking
To be the successful candidate for this position, you will have/demonstrate:
Experience in meal preparation, preferably for children or in group settings.
Knowledge of child nutrition and dietary requirements.
Understanding of food allergies and cross-contamination prevention.
Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
Strong organizational and planning skills.
Ability to prepare meals for multiple children efficiently.
Attention to cleanliness and detail.
Good communication and teamwork skills.
Ability to adapt menus based on available ingredients and dietary needs
Indigenous lived experience and/or significant experience working with Indigenous
communities is strongly valued.
Certifications & Checks:
Clear Criminal Record Check, including the vulnerable sector, as required.
