Youth Coordinator
Reporting to the Education Manager, the Youth Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and facilitating youth programs and activities that support the social, emotional, cultural and physical well-being of the youth in the community. This role focuses on youth engagement, leadership development, cultural connection and creating positive, safe spaces for youth to thrive.
We are seeking someone who brings a background in youth engagement, program coordination, and leadership development—ideally with experience supporting the holistic well-being of Indigenous youth. The ideal candidate is deeply committed to fostering positive connections, upholding cultural values, and creating safe, welcoming spaces rooted in community and tradition. An understanding of the importance of cultural connection, and a passion for nurturing the next generation with respect for our teachings and the land, are essential qualities for this role.
Duties and Responsibilities:
As the Youth Coordinator for Pacheedaht First Nation, you will carry out the following tasks.
Youth Programming, Culture & Identity
• Develop and deliver year-round youth programming and events (after-school programs, workshops, camps, sports, and cultural activities).
• Plan and lead cultural, recreational, and educational activities that strengthen identity and community connection.
• Work with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and community members to integrate traditional teachings and language into programs.
Support, Safety & Mentorship
• Encourage youth participation and provide mentorship, guidance, and positive role modeling.
• Ensure a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment for all participants.
Program Operations, Partnerships & Sustainability
• Coordinate and supervise daily operations of the youth program, including schedules, budgets, and safety protocols.
• Build partnerships with local schools, service agencies, and organizations to enhance youth opportunities.
• Apply for grants or funding to support and expand youth initiatives.
• Maintain attendance, activity, and reporting records as required by the Nation and funders.
Lived and learned experience we are seeking
To be the successful candidate for this position, you will have/demonstrate:
• Skills grounded in lived experience: Experience working with youth, ideally in a community or First Nations setting.
• Basic administrative and reporting skills (Microsoft Office or Google Workspace).
• Knowledge of youth issues, healthy lifestyles, and community resources.
• Ability to plan, organize, and lead activities and events.
• Cultural grounding: Knowledge of Pacheedaht First Nation culture, history and local traditions.
• People & relationships: Excellent communication, relationship-building, and collaboration skills; skilled in problem solving and conflict resolution.
• Indigenous experience: Indigenous lived experience and/or significant experience working with Indigenous communities is strongly valued.
• Certifications & Checks: Valid BC driver’s licence (Class 5; Class 4 preferred) with a clear driver’s abstract and reliable transportation.
• Clear Criminal Record Check, including the vulnerable sector, as required.
