Youth Worker

Reporting to the Education Manager, the Youth Worker will work closely with the Youth Coordinator to support the overall function, safety and programming of the Youth Programs on behalf of Pacheedaht First Nation. The Youth Worker must be a responsible and professional role model to the Youth in the community. This role involves working closely with children and young adults, including those with disabilities, to provide support, guidance, and positive engagement. The Youth Worker will play a crucial role in fostering a safe and nurturing environment that promotes personal growth, learning, and social interaction.

We are seeking someone who brings a background in youth engagement, community support, and fostering safe, inclusive spaces for children and young adults. They demonstrate professionalism, responsibility, and serve as a positive role model, with experience working alongside Indigenous youth, including those with diverse abilities. Rooted in a respect for Pacheedaht values and the importance of cultural continuity, they are committed to nurturing growth, learning, and well-being within the community.

This is a temporary contract until the end of February, with the potential to transition into a full-time capacity depending on departmental needs and performance.

Duties and Responsibilities:
As the Youth Worker for Pacheedaht First Nation, you will carry out the following tasks.

Youth Support & Engagement

• Develop and implement engaging activities tailored to the interests and needs of youth participants.
• Provide one-on-one support to children with disabilities, ensuring their inclusion in all activities.
• Foster positive relationships with youth by offering mentorship and guidance.
• Collaborate with parents, educators, and other professionals to create individualized plans for each child.
• Monitor and document the progress of youth participants, providing feedback to stakeholders as necessary.

Safety & Program Operations

• Ensure a safe environment by adhering to all safety protocols and guidelines
• Ability to work evenings and weekends when required.


Lived and learned experience we are seeking
To be the successful candidate for this position, you will have/demonstrate:

Education or equivalent:

• Education or equivalent: Level 1 First Aid
• Systems knowledge
• Cultural grounding: Knowledge of Pacheedaht First Nation culture, history and local traditions.
• People & relationships: Excellent communication, relationship-building, and organizational skills; skilled in time-management and conflict resolution.
• Indigenous experience: Indigenous lived experience and/or significant experience working with Indigenous communities is strongly valued.
• Certifications & Checks:
o Valid BC driver’s licence (Class 5; Class 4 preferred) with a clear driver’s abstract.
o Clear Criminal Record Check, including the vulnerable sector, as required.
